Heavyweight boxing champion Andy Ruiz Jr has unknowingly revealed one secret ahead of his heavyweight rematch with Anthony Joshua.
According to Daily Mail report, the Mexican-American has been cutting some weight from his 19st 11b frame in a bid to be more mobile for when he squares up against Joshua in Saudi Arabia on December 7.
And Ruiz Jr is now looking more like a boxer than when he defeated Joshua in New York City in June.
American boxer Michael Hunter, who is also expected to be in action on the night, shared a picture of the pair after training on social media on Thursday.
Surprisingly, it revealed the progress Ruiz Jr has made with his weight loss programme as he hopes to defend the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts he claimed from Joshua after a brutal knockout at Madison Square Garden.
Speaking about his secret weight loss tactics last month, Ruiz insists a lighter frame would enable his move around the ring easily.
“I kind of wanted to be a little heavier because Anthony Joshua’s big, I wanted to carry his weight, take the punches well but I think being 10lbs lighter, I’m going to be a better fighter,” Ruiz said.
“I’m going to be more faster, let my hands go and be faster on my feet as well.
“Ten pounds isn’t going to make any difference, if anything it’s going to make me stronger, it’s going to make me faster, especially because he’s going to be running around.
“I think he’s going to be trying to win by points and my job is to cut the ring and do what we got to do and let my hands go, it’s exactly what we been training on in the gym,” Ruiz summed up.
