Frank Lampard’s youthful side continued to impress in the Premier League after Chelsea beat toothless Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Stamford Bridge.

Crystal Palace battled gamely but the hosts were too good.

Chelsea had a flying start to the game as after the kick-off whistle they had the ball with Willian driving them up the pitch. After Pulisic tried to look for an opening, Kovacic had a blocked shot before James’ cross was parried behind for a corner which Palace cleared.

Another chance for Chelsea came 12 minutes later and the Blues should have taken the lead. Mount released the in-form Pulisic through on goal and a breath-taking change of direction sat Ward down in the box. He just had Guaita to beat and tried to loft the ball over the Palace stopper, but he stayed big to keep what would have been a fine solo effort out.

Chelsea took the lead in the 52nd minute through Tammy Abraham who had a quite second game. It was a lovely play from the Blues as Willian brilliantly flicked Kovavic’s pass on to release Abraham through on goal and he produced a clinical finish past Guaita.

In the 79th minute, Chelsea stretched their lead to tow and it was Pulisic with a wonderful header with his fifth goal in the last three Premier League matches. Chelsea carved their way through the Palace, working the ball from right to left to set up Batshuayi for a shot. It was blocked but fell kindly for Pulisic six yards out, and he nodded home past Guaita.

Tammy Abraham, whose side now moves to second on the log has now netted ten goals in the Premier League this season and is joint-top of the scoring charts with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
